FAQs
Below is a list of commonly asked questions for topics supported at the NMC. These can include printing services, audio and video editing software used, equipment circulation support, and duplication and transfer.
If your question isn't answered using the list below, send us an email at media@valdosta.edu or use our contact us form.
Printing
Printing on the Xerox Printer will only be done via your one card. We will not take cash or check for this type of request.
Departmental/Organizational authorization for invoice charges is an acceptable alternative for payment. See the following resource for an annual authorization form.
Note: we can only take a limited volume of no more than 50 pages when printing for a department or organization. Print volumes exceeding the 50 page cap will need to go through Creative Services.
Audio and Video Editing
It is recommended that you store your data on both an external hard drive and a cloud storage area like OneDrive or Googl Drive. Media projects can be very large. It is important to stay organized with your video, image, and audio assets for each project you plan to work on.
Equipment Circulation
Students can checkout laptops for a 1-week loan period. Laptops are available for re-checkout as soon as the start of the next business day if approved. This device can be renewed. See our Webpage on checkout policy to find our request form. All items should be reviewed and approved for both new loan requests and renewal requests using our general request form.
Yes. We have some portable amplifiers that can be checked out for student/academic activities on campus. This request type can be found on our general request form.
Software
We have Windows DVD maker or DVD Flick for simpler projects.
Duplication and Transfer
Yes. Current VSU Student, Staff, and Faculty patrons can get their VHS, DVDs, CDRs and audio cassettes duplicated at the New Media Center. The New Media Center stocks these different media types at a reasonable price requiring patrons only to bring in their master copy for duplication.
Note: We adhere to Copyright Law, and will not duplicate material determined as copyrighted without written permission.
No. This is copyrighted material. New Media Center's facilities are not available to be used for such actions including, but not limited to: unauthorized music or software downloads and/or burns, unauthorized receipt and/or transmission of any kind of proprietary materials without either a license or other form of permission expressly granted by the respective owner of those materials. Media can make copies of any authorized materials for which the user has obtained either a license or some other form of legal permission.
If the conversion is for academic purposes, the cost includes only the cost of the DVD which is $1.50 for the first conversion. All other conversions are the same charge as personal projects. If the project is a personal project, there is a $2.00 per tower run plus the cost of the DVD. Five tower runs or more requested will include an additional $10 service fee. One tower run of VHS to DVD is 4 tapes to 4 DVDs.
Yes. The New Media Center houses 2 DVD duplication towers that NMC staff use to duplicate the patron’s master DVDs. 9 copies of a DVD can be made simultaneously per tower run. The cost for non-academic duplication is $2.00 per Tower Run.
If the purpose of the copy is academic, the only cost is that of the DVD which is $1.50 for the first duplication run. After the first duplication the charge is similar to personal cost. If the purpose is personal, the cost is $2.00 per duplication tower run plus the cost of the DVDs.
