Abstracts
- 200-300 word count
- Clear title
- Explain the project's purpose and/or research question(s)
- Offer an overview of the scholarly content of the project
- Include any methodological approaches used
- Discuss the outcomes of the project
- Make a clear case for the significance or relevance of the project to the larger field of study
- Create a well-written, well-organized abstract using the academic standards of the field
- Write for an educated audience
- Proof read carefully
- Abstracts for Visual Arts must include image(s) of the work
- Abstracts for Performing Arts must include a video
GENERAL PRESENTATION GUIDELINES
Students should be in their presentation space at least 10 minutes prior to their session to upload any digital content onto the computer. Dress is business casual.
Awards:
To be eligible for conference awards, students must submit their completed projects to our email by October 15, 2023.

ORAL PRESENTATIONS
Oral presentations should be no more than 10 minutes in length with another five minutes for questions from the audience. GURC is multi-disciplinary, so it is important to remember that your audience may not know your discipline as well as you do.
Note that all computers in our presentation rooms are PCs; please prepare file types accordingly and bring them on a flash drive to speed up file transfer. We also encourage you to back up your files online/in email. When you arrive, please introduce yourself to the panel moderator.
POSTER SESSIONS
Students presenting in Poster sessions should plan to have their posters in place at least 15 minutes prior to the beginning of the session.
Posters should:
- Be no larger than 3 feet by 4 feet (36" x 48")
- Be organized with clear title, school, and author(s)
- Have a citation box for all visual and source material used on the poster (this can be 16-18 pt font)
- Be electronically created and printed prior to the conference
- Be understandable from a distance of 3 feet (Font should be large enough to read. No smaller than 20 pt font)
- Have clear scholarship explaining the research project
- Have research question/statement(s), methodology, conclusion, and significant information clearly represented.
- Be equal parts visual and informational: Consider a balance of aesthetic and information
- Work with your sponsor and Proof Read carefully
Poster presenters will be provided with ways to affix the posters to display boards. You are responsible for putting up and taking down your own poster. Presenters should be available during the entirety of the poster session to discuss their research.
PERFORMANCE PRESENTATIONS
Performance presentations may include drama, dance, music, or any other kind of live performance. Performance presentations should be no more than 10 minutes long with another five minutes for questions and comments from the audience.
- Students must inform us about any unique requirements that might be needed
- Students will be expected to provide any equipment or props needed for their performance
- Students should include an artist statement within their time allotment.
VISUAL PRESENTATIONS
Visual presentations may include film, photography, artwork, or other creations.
- Students should prepare an artist statement for presentation
- Students need to let us know if unique space is required
- Audio/visual equipment (computers) will be in the rooms.
- Students must bring all equipment unless discussed and confirmed by us
FULL PANELS
Students may also submit full panels (3-4 presentations) for consideration. Please see the submission portal on the GURC Website for more information. These panels will run according to the Oral presentation guidelines above.
