No, all cases will be addressed by priority.

The BIT should be contacted before a major crisis occurs.  The ERT should be calling during a crisis and the CRT should be utilized after a crisis occurs. The BIT uses preventative measures to ensure safety throughout the campus.

  • Someone else may have missed the signs you see.  You interact with individuals every day on campus and could notice a threat or change in behavior that others may have overlooked.  If an individual's behavior seems questionable, please don’t hesitate to report. We welcome your observations!

The BIT takes preventative actions to identify and address warning signs before a crime is committed.  If a threatening situation is in progress, call the University Police Department immediately.

  • An initial investigation will be conducted by the BIT Chair and/or the BIT Co-Chair. These administrators may convene the Behavior Intervention Team (BIT) or consult with individual members of the Committee for the purpose of gathering additional information if needed for a clear review of the situation. This is necessary to eliminate reports that may not require a complete investigation.
  • A report or verbal notification of the initial findings will then be submitted to VSU's President. It is the President’s decision whether or not to submit a written recommendation in regard to the continuation of the investigation. The investigating Chair and/or Co-Chair will then receive the recommendation and proceed with a final investigation as appropriate. When deemed necessary, the BIT may seek the advice of the Consultation Committee consisting of other professionals and/or administrators at VSU.
