Through the ART 4160 Internship students can gain valuable work experience in the field of graphic design with the Office of Creative Services at Valdosta State. In today's work force, employer's are generally looking for three years work experience in the field to be eligible for an entry level graphic design position. Waiting until you graduate to gain this work experience can set you back. With an internship in our office you will have the opportunity to work on a variety of projects ranging from setting-up university stationery and departmental brochures, to catalogs, web graphics, digital ads, and much more. 

THROUGHOUT THE INTERNSHIP YOU WILL REFINE YOUR SKILLS IN:

  • Implementing consistent design layout across multiple publications.
  • Refining typography layout.
  • Knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite: specifically Photoshop, Illustrator, & InDesign and their appropriate uses in design layout.
  • Working with client's ideas and needs while producing great design work.
  • Experience in implementing and overseeing consistency of University's Visual Identity Guide and logo usage.
  • Pre-press setup of design files.
  • Organization skills and time management.
  • Group collaboration when working in creative team setting.
  • Ability to clearly communicate reasons behind specific design choices and concepts.

This internship is unpaid but college credit is available. The internship could lead to possible employment opportunities with the Creative Services as a Student Assistant. To participate in the ART 4160 Internship students must be available to work a minimum of 6 hours a week at the Creative Services Office. Our Office hours are Monday - Thursday 8am - 5:30pm, and Friday 8am -3pm. We work with students' class schedules to set-up their work schedule. The internship will be conducted as if this were the student's job. They will responsible for showing up on time and completing a given amount of work each week. During the internship you will work closely with our graphic designers who will give you feedback on your progress and design work. There will be no grading of projects during the course of the internship. At the end of the semester you will be evaluated on your overall work and performance which will be submitted your graphic design professor for final review. Student will either receive a satisfactory or unsatisfactory mark for the internship. All applicants must submit a design portfolio for review to be considered for internship. We're looking for self-motivated students who are interested in learning more about photography.

Through this internship students can gain valuable work experience in the field of photography with the Office of Creative Services at Valdosta State. Students will have the opportunity to assist with all aspects of the unit’s function, mainly taking photographs or assisting the university photographer in taking photographs to support the creation of materials or publications for internal and external audiences. This includes photographs for billboards, brochures, newsletters, ads, web documents, multi-media presentations and athletic events.

THROUGHOUT THE INTERNSHIP YOU WILL REFINE YOUR SKILLS IN:

  • Knowledge of digital still photography including methods, techniques, and equipment for general and specialized applications.
  • Knowledge and skill in still digital post-production involving digital image capture and manipulation, and in the operation of the hardware and software used in the process, including digital color management.
  • Skill with various types of photographic lighting equipment, including studio lighting and location lighting equipment, as well as ‘on camera’ lighting techniques.

This internship is unpaid but college credit is available.
