Mission Statement
The Department of Biology is dedicated to excellence in teaching, pursuit of research service to the community.
As part of the Valdosta State University, the Department of Biology provides a program of study which serves students pursuing a variety of careers in biology and the health science fields. The Department offers a wide range of courses for biology majors as well as support courses for non-majors from associated departments and programs. Courses teach the basic principles of biology, develop student ability to understand and critically analyze biological issues, and provide in-depth coverage of the latest developments in the biological sciences.
Through research and technical assistance, the Department seeks to address critical biological issues and problems facing the region and the nation. The knowledge gained through research is disseminated to the professional and public sectors via formal publications and presentations.
The Department's faculty serve the people of the region through involvement on committees within the College, the University, and the University System of Georgia, and participation in professional, private, and community organizations.
