Tropical Storm Nicole Update: VSU Announces Closures, Continues to Monitor Situation
Dear Students, Faculty, and Staff,
As promised, we have continued to closely watch the path of Tropical Storm Nicole. The latest update from VSU’s Department of Public Safety shows the storm is strengthening as it moves closer to us with greatest impact of heavy rain and winds predicted between 6pm and 10pm. As a result, VSU will shut down at noon today. We will continue to monitor the impact of Nicole, but as of right now, we anticipate VSU reopening at 8am on Friday (tomorrow).
So, what does this mean?
Classes: For faculty and students, face to face classes are canceled as of noon through the remainder of the day. Faculty members are asked to make up for lost class time by rescheduling classes or moving classwork online.
Campus Activities: All campus activities and facility reservations are canceled. The Student Union and Recreation Center will also close at Noon.
Housing: Residence halls will remain open for residential students only. We ask that all residents refrain from being outside on campus after 6pm.
Dining: All retail locations will close at Noon. Palms Dining will remain open for residential students until 5:00 pm. Students will be permitted to carry out additional food and snacks for the evening.
For the entire campus community, please stay safe and keep a close eye on this storm as it approaches.
