VALDOSTA — Logan Mason Kraus of Melbourne, Florida, is the recipient of the 2022 Male Student-Athlete Academic Award at Valdosta State University.

The Student-Athlete Academic Award is presented to a junior, senior, or graduate student-athlete with the highest grade point average. Ties are not broken. Kraus is a member of VSU’s men’s cross country team.

“This award shows the hard work and dedication put fourth into setting up my future,” he said.

As an undergraduate student at VSU, Kraus set a number of personal records and earned Gulf South Conference Freshman of the Week and Honor Roll accolades, U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Collegiate All-Academic honors, an athletic scholarship, and the Student-Athlete Spotlight Award.

The College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) honored Kraus with Academic All-District honors.

Kraus is a cadet with VSU’s Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps Detachment 172 and a member of the Emory Bass Squadron of the Air Force Association’s Arnold Air Society. He has earned repeated Air Force ROTC academic honors and physical fitness assessment awards. He was named March 2021 Cadet of the Month. He was also selected for the Iron Man Award, Air Force ROTC Achievement Award, and Veterans of Foreign Wars Award. He has participated in Special Forces professional development training and the Arnold Air Society National Convention.

Kraus enjoys serving others and has volunteered his time with Neverthirst, Make-A-Wish Foundation, local schools and 5K events, and Little River Association. He served his university as president of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee during the 2021-2022 academic year and as a trainer for the Arnold Air Society.

Kraus is pursuing a Master of Business Administration at VSU and anticipates graduating in May 2024. He graduated cum laude with a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice and a Minor in Aerospace Studies during VSU’s 231st Commencement. He plans to attend the Euro-NATO Joint Jet Pilot Training Program and train to become a fighter pilot for the United States Air Force.

Kraus’s commitment to academic, athletic, leadership, and service excellence resulted in him earning repeated spots on the Dean’s List, the Claire Philips Martin Scholarship, and the Nisbet Scholarship.

His supportive family includes parents Kirk and Rebecca Kraus.
