VALDOSTA — Andrew J. McCord of Roxboro, North Carolina, is the recipient of the 2022 Most Outstanding AS300 Cadet Award at Valdosta State University.
“It is always a humbling experience to be recognized for achievements only made possible by the support and guidance of others,” he said. “Without the Detachment 172 cadre, my fellow cadets, and my wonderful wife Kathleen, I could not find success here.”
To be considered for the Most Outstanding AS300 Cadet Award, McCord had to be ranked in the top five percent of his junior class; demonstrate positive contributions to leadership, initiative, good judgment, self-confidence, promptness, and respect for authority; be able to adapt to change; and possess the highest personal and ethical standards and strong personal convictions.
McCord is currently pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Exercise Physiology. He anticipates graduating and commissioning as an officer in the United States Air Force in May 2023.
McCord has served as public affairs officer, operations group commander, and cadet wing plans and exercises officer with VSU’s U.S. Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps Detachment 172. He is also a member of both the Emory Bass Squadron of the Arnold Air Society and the Air Force Association.
McCord’s commitment to academic, leadership, and service excellence has resulted in him earning a spot on VSU’s Dean’s List and being named an Air Force ROTC field training distinguished graduate.
His supportive family includes wife Kathleen McCord and parents Debra Agee and Kenneth McCord. He became a first-time father and welcomed a daughter to the world in July 2021.
