VSU’s Institute of Management Accountants Wins Award

VALDOSTA — Valdosta State University has earned the 2015-2016 Institute of Management Accountants (IMA) Outstanding Student Chapter Award for Excellence. 

“Our chapter promoted IMA’s mission and vision by providing a variety of activities and service opportunities to our student members,” said Ravisara Dowden, VSU IMA president. “This year, VSU’s IMA student chapter really went above and beyond to earn the award.”
 
VSU IMA held monthly meetings where they hosted guest speakers who shared about their experiences in the professional world. They also organized a plant tour to the Georgia Gulf Sulfur Corp. in Bainbridge and volunteered at the region’s leading hunger relief organization, Second Harvest of South Georgia.
 
VSU IMA received this award for the second consecutive year.  
 
“This award is a testament to the quality of students at the Langdale College of Business Administration that we are able to compete with students from the top tier institutions in the country,” said Dr. Sanjay Gupta, associate dean of the Harley Langdale Jr. College of Business Administration and chapter advisor.
 
VSU’s IMA student chapter strives to help business students transition into the professional world and is open to all undergraduate and graduate business students at VSU.
 
VSU’s IMA Outstanding Student Chapter Award was presented by IMA, the worldwide association of accountants and financial professionals working in business. IMA is committed to helping its more than 80,000 members expand their professional skills, improve management abilities, and further their career success.
 
The award was presented at the IMA Student Leadership conference in Detroit on Nov. 11. The award is the highest honor a student chapter can receive and was awarded to only six of the 120 chapters in the nation.
