VALDOSTA — Valdosta State University has earned the 2015-2016 Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) Superior Merit Student Chapter Award.
“Winning the Superior Merit Student Chapter Award has motivated everyone in our organization to work together and continue to achieve our next award,” said Zaykeria Miranda, VSU SHRM president.
VSU’s chapter of SHRM completed a number of activities to earn the award. The chapter sent its president to the annual SHRM conference in Washington, D.C., hosted a fundraiser at Buffalo Wild Wings to fund HR workshops, sponsored a networking meeting for local HR professionals and students, participated in Relay for Life, and hosted a professional speaker series open to all students and community members in the HR field.
“This is a great achievement for the chapter,” said Rebecca Murphy, associate director of Human Resources for Employee Development and chapter advisor. “It requires much dedication and programming for chapter members, along with providing campus and community opportunities. I am very proud of our officer team.”
SHRM is open to all undergraduate and graduate students at VSU with an interest in human resources, public administration, business, organizational development, communication, industrial-organizational psychology, and leadership.
The award was presented by the Society for Human Resource Management, the world’s largest HR professional society. The organization is represented by 285,000 members in more than 165 countries. SHRM’s vision is to be a “preeminent and globally recognized authority whose leadership, perspective, resources and expertise are sought and utilized to address the most pressing, current and emerging human resource management issues.”
