Blazer Nation Celebrates Season of Joy, Giving with Holiday Helper Tree Project
VALDOSTA — Valdosta State University invites all faculty, staff, students, alumni, retirees, and friends to join the Holiday Helper Tree Project and help make the season bright for a child in need.
An annual Blazer tradition, the Holiday Helper Tree is housed inside the Office of Student Life, on the third floor of the Student Union. It decorated with handmade ornaments featuring the Christmas wish and needs lists of 100 community children affiliated with the Children’s Advocacy Center of Lowndes County Inc. and Behavioral Health Services of South Georgia.
Participating in the Holiday Helper Tree Project is a fairly simple three-step process.
1 — Choose an ornament from the tree.
2 — Spread a little holiday cheer and go shopping for the items on the child’s wish/needs list.
3 — Return the unwrapped gifts and the ornament to the Office of Student Life by 3 p.m. Friday, Dec. 9.
“I believe this project is a great way for VSU to give back to the community, especially children in the community,” said Brian Roberts, assistant director of Student Life. “The holidays are about joy and giving, and thankfully VSU is full of individuals who are willing to provide for those less fortunate and help bring joy to a child.”
