VSU Offers Summer String Lessons for Community Children, Adults
VALDOSTA — The Regional Center for Continuing Education and the South Georgia String Project have once again teamed up to offer a summer series of classes for community children and adults who want to continue their study of the violin, viola, cello, or bass at Valdosta State University.
Interested students must be at least 8 years of age and must have already taken the equivalent of at least one semester of stringed instrument instruction. The summer series of classes will meet from 4:30 p.m. to 5:20 p.m. on eight Tuesdays and eight Thursdays between June 7 and July 28. Tuition is $69 per person or $150 for a family of three or more.
Founded in 1993, the South Georgia String Project encourages the enjoyment of music and self-expression through the study of a musical instrument and actively seeks to provide opportunities for student leadership, parental participation, and involvement in the greater community. It is a joint venture of the VSU Department of Music and the Valdosta Symphony Orchestra.
Operating under the leadership of Dr. Kristin Pfeifer Yu, director and master teacher, the South Georgia String Project provides a music program where community members ages 8 to adult can easily access low-cost stringed instrument instruction. It also provides a valuable, mentored teaching experience for students pursuing music degrees at VSU. Technique classes, private lessons, and four levels of group classes are available after school during the fall and spring semesters.
Call (229) 245-6484 or visit the Regional Center for Continuing Education at 903 N. Patterson St. to register for the summer string series or to learn more.
