The Office Alcohol and Other Drug Education and the Office of Health Promotions at Valdosta State University hosted 2016 Safe Spring Break Readiness Feb. 29, on the Pedestrian Mall. Students had the opportunity to safely experience the effects of impaired driving with the Arrive Alive Driving Under the Influence and Driving While Intoxicated Simulator.

VALDOSTA – The Office Alcohol and Other Drug Education and the Office of Health Promotions at Valdosta State University hosted 2016 Safe Spring Break Readiness Feb. 29, on the Pedestrian Mall.

“Each year the Office of Alcohol and Other Drug Education (AOD) and the Office of Health Promotions seek to equip our students to make responsible decisions while on Spring Break when it comes to the use of alcohol, driving concerns, sexual behavior, and exposure to the sun,” said Mark Williams, coordinator for Alcohol and Other Drug Education. “While Spring Break can be fun, it can also be safe.”

Students had the opportunity to safely experience the effects of impaired driving with the Arrive Alive Driving Under the Influence and Driving While Intoxicated Simulator. The Office of Alcohol and Other Drug Education annually receives funding from the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety to provide educational opportunities that increase awareness regarding driving under the influence of alcohol and seatbelt usage.

Representatives from AOD and the Office of Health Promotions also handed out tips for a safe Spring Break and information about legal updates for Florida beaches, including the Panama City Beach City Council’s unanimous vote to ban alcohol consumption on the beaches during March 2016, the peak of the college Spring Break season.

Students who wish to acquire information and tips on how to have a safe Spring Break are encouraged to stop by the Office of Alcohol and Other Drug Education located in Powell Hall East.
