VSU Contemporary Writers Series Hosts Dean Poling March 10
VALDOSTA — As part of its 2015-2016 Contemporary Writer Series, Valdosta State University’s Department of English will welcome local author Dean Poling to the Student Union Theatre at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 10. The presentation is free of charge and open to the public.
Poling is managing editor at The Valdosta Daily Times. He is a multiple winner of the Georgia Press Association's first-place award for his serious and humorous newspaper columns and has won more than 50 individual writing and journalism awards. He has been with The Valdosta Daily Times since 1989, working as a police and court reporter before becoming features editor, assistant managing editor, and managing editor. He is a member of the newspaper's editorial board and an associate editor with Valdosta Scene magazine.
During his VSU presentation, Poling will speak and read from his three books — Cowboy Boots and Pony Tales and Redneck Night at the Chinese Restaurant, which are collections of columns from The Valdosta Daily Times, and Waiting for Willie, which is a novel set in South Georgia.
Poling is a West Virginia native. He and wife Jetty have three sons.
