The Vagina Monologues, an award-winning play written by Eve Ensler, is a series of monologues highlighting current issues facing women and is based on the author’s interviews with over 200 women regarding their experiences with sexuality. Proceeds from the event are used to fund the education, empowerment, and safety of women on campus, in the community, and across the nation.
“Persons who attend can expect to see a cast made up of their peers who are working hard to educate those on campus and in the community about women’s sexuality and the toll sexual violence has on women and girls,” said Dr. Tracy Woodard, director of the Women’s and Gender Studies Program. “I hope that The Vagina Monologues helps to expose the need of everyone to help in the ongoing fight to stop violence against women and girls … in order to achieve a world where women live safely and freely, men need to be taught that they cannot abuse and rape women … men must be taught to love and respect women as their equals.”
The Women’s and Gender Studies Program is committed to providing feminist scholarship across disciplines and promoting gender equality and respect.
This is VSU’s ninth consecutive year presenting The Vagina Monologues.
