Annual Juried Student Art Competition Accepting Submissions, Deadline is Feb. 26
VALDOSTA — The Valdosta State University Dedo Maranville Fine Arts Gallery is now accepting submissions for its 18th annual Juried Student Art Competition. All currently enrolled students, regardless of their major area of study, are encouraged to participate.
A maximum of four two-dimensional and/or three-dimensional works may be submitted for the Juried Student Art Competition. This includes graphic design, illustration, interior design, animation, drawing, printmaking, painting, aqueous media, jewelry, photography, ceramics, small metals, sculpture, and mixed media.
Artwork must be submitted by the student applicant, not a faculty member, and must be original. Reproductions or prints of original work will not be considered. The work must have been completed while attending VSU and must not have been previously exhibited in the Dedo Maranville Fine Arts Gallery.
The submission deadline is midnight on Friday, Feb. 26. There are no entry fees, but there is prize money to be won — $200 for first place, $125 for second place, $100 for third place, $75 for fourth place, and five merit awards of $50 Binders Art Supplies gift cards.
To be considered for the Juried Student Art Competition, students must first submit .jpg images of their artwork. Each image should be saved as the artist’s last name followed by an underscore (_) then the entry number (1, 2, 3, 4) and title. Images should be emailed to artsgallery@valdosta.edu with the artist’s first and last name in the subject line. This email should also include a word document with the artist’s first and last name at the top and then a numbered list of each entry that includes the title of the piece, the media used, the size, and the price (or NSF, if not for sale).
Elizabeth Turk, a professor of photography from the Savannah College of Art and Design’s Atlanta campus, will review the digital submissions and select the pieces that will be featured in the Juried Student Art Competition. Students will be notified of acceptance via email on Tuesday, March 1. Only those submissions accepted by the juror will compete for awards and be featured in the Dedo Maranville Fine Arts Gallery from Monday, March 21, through Friday, April 8.
Visit the Department of Art in Fine Arts Building Room 1070A to pick up an application, submission details, and presentation guidelines.
