VSU Says NO MORE to Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault

Visit the NO MORE national website at www.nomore.org

VALDOSTA—Valdosta State University’s NO MORE campaign is part of a national movement focused on bringing awareness and prevention of domestic violence and sexual assault. Student organizers are sponsoring a forum beginning at 7 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 30, in Jennett Hall. The event is open to the public.

Quineshia D. Claiborne, a Student Government Association senator, is organizing the NO MORE movement at Valdosta State and is impressed with the support she has received.

“Groups and individuals have been very receptive,” said Claiborne, a mass media major from Dunwoody, Ga. “Before I can even explain about the movement people want to help.”

The campus community will have an opportunity to support the NO MORE movement from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Oct. 21, in Palms Quad, by leaving their hand imprint to symbolize the sign of unity for the prevention of domestic violence and sexual assault.

“We want the message to be that if it has happened to you [domestic violence or sexual assault] or someone you know that you can speak up and tell someone,” said Claiborne. “We want students to support the campaign and show that students care about the fight against domestic violence and sexual assault.”

Student volunteers will also distribute information about the NO MORE campaign on Oct. 28 in the Student Union.

According to the NO MORE website, the movement began in 2009 and was developed because of the “lack of significant progress that has been made in the visibility of domestic violence and sexual assault, these problems affecting millions remain hidden and on the margins of public concern.”
