Oct. 11th is Military Appreciation Day at Valdosta State University

VALDOSTA—Valdosta State University will host Military Appreciation Day Saturday, Oct. 11, as the Blazer football team takes on the West Georgia Wolves.

Active and retired military personnel and immediate family members will receive free admission to the game that begins at 2 p.m. at Bazemore-Hyder Stadium. Active and retired military personnel need to present their valid military identification card at the gate for admission to the game. In addition, VSU is hosting tailgating festivities for active and retired service members and their families from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., at the American Legion building, located at 1301 Williams Street.

Families are encouraged to arrive early and participate in the traditional Blazer Walk that begins at 12:30 p.m. and features football players and coaches greeting Blazer fans as they walk to the stadium.

“This is a small way Valdosta State can say ‘thank you’ to our friends at Moody who are serving our country,” said VSU President William J. McKinney. “We want the service members and their families to tailgate with VSU and enjoy a great football game.”

For approximately 10 years, Valdosta State’s Athletic Department has granted free general admission to all athletic events for active duty military and their immediate family members.
