VSU Appoints University Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs
Rogers is the current dean of the Lutgert College of Business at Florida Gulf Coast University (FGCU), an institution of approximately 14,100 undergraduate and graduate students across five colleges.
"Not only did Dr. Rogers instantly rise to the top of a very competitive pool in our national search, but he was also the unambiguously clear choice of our campus community, and the unanimous first choice of our search committee,” said McKinney. “As we continue to build a more engaged and innovative Valdosta State, Hudson will bring a rare academic perspective that combines a commitment to both liberal and professional education, a pioneering and entrepreneurial spirit, and a keen business sense to the Office of Academic Affairs. We look forward to welcoming him and his family in July."
As provost and vice president for Academic Affairs, Rogers will serve as a member of the President’s Cabinet and chief executive in the absence of the president. His responsibilities will include leadership for all units of Academic Affairs including six colleges, the Graduate School, Library and Information Science, the Odum Library, Information Technology, Aerospace Studies, International Programs, Office of Extended Learning, and the Kings Bay Center.
“Exciting things are happening at Valdosta State University,” said Rogers.” It is a privilege to have the opportunity to participate in the process through which the University continues to assure student academic success through engagement, faculty and staff development, and outreach to the community.”
In his current position as dean of the Lutgert College of Business, Rogers is credited with successful reaffirmation of accreditation from the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB). He has also worked on the development of a five year strategic plan that includes student success, continued recruitment of students with high academic standards, promoting a culture of continuous improvement, developing a connectedness to the business environment, and a forward-looking development plan.
Rogers also served FGCU as associate provost and vice president for Academic Affairs from 2005-2011. In this position, he worked closely with all academic units and the Faculty Senate. He was responsible for managing an academic budget of more than $50 million, providing leadership support for the College of Arts and Sciences, Lutgert College of Business, College of Education, College of Health Professions and Social Work, Whitaker College of Engineering, and Library Services.
Rogers earned a Bachelor of Science in business administration from the University of the West Indies, Trinidad and Tobago, a Master of Business Administration from the University of New Orleans, and a Doctor of Business Administration with a concentration in marketing from the University of Memphis.
