Panel Discussion Examines Chronic Illness and Spiritual Healing

VALDOSTA – Valdosta State University’s Campus Wellness and Department of Philosophy and Religious Studies are hosting a panel event that examines the relationship between chronic illness, spirituality and healing. The event will be held from 7:30 to 9 p.m. on Thursday, April 17 in Bailey Science Center Room 3009.

The event will be based on a discussion of the book “Chronic Illness, Spirituality and Healing: Diverse Disciplinary, Religious and Cultural Perspectives.” The book analyzes how the mind-body-spirit-environment relationship may be used to attend to the well-being of people living with chronic conditions using a blend of biomedical care and spiritual practice.

Panelists for the event will be comprised of faculty from Philosophy and Religious Studies: Dr. Michael Stoltzfus, Dr. Christine James, and Dr. Lavonna Lovern, in addition Dr. Rebecca Green will represent the College of Nursing and Health Sciences on the panel.

“Anyone interested in the application of spiritual care, disability studies, and cultural studies to chronic illness are especially encouraged to attend,” said Dr. Lily Vuong, assistant professor of Philosophy and Religious Studies and moderator for the panel discussion.

The event is free and open to the public. For more information, contact Dr. Lily Vuong at lcvuong@valdosta.edu.
