Community is invited to attend Exercise is Medicine Symposium March 29
VALDOSTA – Valdosta State University’s Exercise Physiology Club will host the Exercise is Medicine Symposium from 7:30 a.m. until 2 p.m., Saturday, March 29 in the Jennette Lecture Hall located in the Education Building. This event is open to the public.
The Exercise is Medicine Initiative was launched in 2007 by the American College of Sports Medicine and the American Medical Association to encourage primary care physicians to include exercise in patient treatment plans.
Registration begins at 7:30 a.m. on the day of the event. A light breakfast and refreshments will be provided by local businesses. The event will begin at 8 a.m. with local doctors and health care providers giving presentations on the benefits of exercise.
The panel of experts and topics include: Dr. Ben Hogan, M.D., “Exercise is Medicine;” Lori Betts, M.P.T., “Women and Exercise;” Dr. Amanda Martin, D.P.T, “Complimentary Medicine;” Dr. Nic Dodson, D.P.M. and Dr. Erin Dodson, D.P.M., “Exercise and Lower Body Injuries;” Kim Ortloff, B.S., L.M.T. “Stretching your Life;” and Dr. Jonathan Jones, M.P.T., D.P.T, “Exercise and Upper Body Injuries.”
As part of the symposium activities, three separate 10-minute exercise sessions led throughout the day to meet the recommended minimum 30 minutes a day of moderate intensity exercise. In addition, gift baskets containing T-shirts, pullover jackets, car decals, water bottles, gift certificates, exercise is medicine bracelets and more.
Sponsorships are available at the Bronze ($100), Silver ($250) and Gold ($500) levels. All sponsors will have the name of their company printed on the Exercise is Medicine T-shirt that attendees will receive. In addition, Bronze sponsors will receive one T-shirt and five Exercise is Medicine bracelets, Silver sponsors will receive two T-shirts and five bracelets, and Gold sponsors will receive five T-shirts and 10 bracelets.
Registration is $15 per person by Friday, March 14 and includes a T-shirt. Registration on the day of the event is $20 and T-shirts are not guaranteed.
To register or become a sponsor, send checks or money orders to the VSU Department of Kinesiology and P.E., 1500 N. Patterson St. Valdosta, GA, 31698-0095. All checks for registration and sponsorships should be made payable to VSU Exercise Physiology Club, please include full name, address, phone number and T-shirt size for mail-in registration.
