VSU Goes Red for Heart Health Month
VALDOSTA—Valdosta State University’s Campus Wellness committee will Go Red for women Friday, Feb. 14 for Heart Health month. The committee encourages students, faculty and staff to join.
Campus Wellness encourages students, faculty and staff to wear red or decorate offices red to support heart health. Send pictures of individuals, groups or offices deck out in red to Brianca Holloman at bjholloman@valdosta.edu. Please include a photo caption identifying those in the picture and name of office. You can alsosubmit personal stories and heart healthy recipeson Campus Wellness’ Heart Health website. Participate in one or all three activities and receive a “Go Red” pin for supporting heart health.
According to the American Heart Association, heart disease is the number one killer of women and causes one out of three deaths in women each year.
Campus Wellness will continue its heart healthy activities by hosting the “Take Heart” event Wednesday, Feb. 26 in the Student Union Ballrooms B&C.
Free health and information screenings will be offered to all faculty and students, beginning at 10 a.m.
The “Take Heart” event includes a five-speaker panel of survivors and experts who will share personal experiences and give advice on nutritional information and general heart health. The event will include a heart healthy luncheon that is $5 a person. The panel and luncheon will begin at 11:45 a.m. and last until 1 p.m.
“Heart disease affects everyone,” said Gerilyn Pepin, coordinator of the event. “Please join us in this important cause!”
Register for the lunch by Friday, Feb. 21, and pay at the door with either cash or check made out to the VSU Foundation at the door.
