Mast Named Vice President for Student Affairs and Dean of Students
VALDOSTA -- President Patrick J. Schloss has named Russell F.
Mast as Vice President for Student Affairs and Dean of Students. As
a member of the president’s senior advisory team, Mast is directly
responsible for supervising all units within Students Affairs,
including Access Office for Students with Disabilities, Career
Services, Campus Recreation, Counseling Center, Alcohol and Other
Drug Education, Health Promotions, Financial Aid, Housing and
Residence Life, Student Life, Student Conduct, Cooperative
Education, Orientation and Leadership Programs, Volunteer Services
and Parents Programs, and the Office of Testing.
A veteran staff member, Mast has worked in various positions during
his 21 years at Valdosta State, having served as Interim Vice
President for Student Affairs and Dean of Students (March
2010-present and 1999-2002); Assistant Dean of Students
(1998-2002); Director of Student Activities (1991-1998); and
Director of Intramural and Recreation (1989-1991). Mast has been an
active member of more than 25 campus-wide committees and task
forces, including the Student Union Steering Committee, which was
responsible for the planning and construction of the new Student
Union building.

recognized Mr. Mast's fine qualities and outstanding service,”
Schloss said. “The prospect of an expanded and innovative student
life focus under Mr. Mast is very exciting.”
Mast received a bachelor's degree and master’s degree from Eastern
Kentucky University. In 1997, he received the Eastern Kentucky
University “Outstanding Alumni Award” from the College of Health,
Physical Education, Recreation and Athletics. Mast is a member of
several professional organizations including the Southern
Association for College Student Affairs and the National
Association for Student Affairs Professionals.
An active member of the local community, Mast currently serves as
chair of the Valdosta-Lowndes County Parks and Recreation
Authority; is a graduate of Leadership Lowndes (2001); and was
named a “Community Champion” by the Valdosta Daily Times
(2000).

the Vice President for Student Affairs and Dean of Students at
Valdosta State,” Mast said. “I look forward to working with the
talented Student Affairs staff. Valdosta State is an outstanding
institution with dedicated faculty and staff and great students.
The Student Affairs division will continue its mission of providing
quality programs, services and facilities for our students and the
university community. I am excited about the future of VSU and I
feel honored to be part of a great learning community.”
