Campus Alert: VSU Receives Written Threat for University CenterSouth
Valdosta - Valdosta State University received a written threat,
which included references to the Virginia Tech and Northern
Illinois University shootings and a mention of a bomb. The threat
was specifically targeted to the South Georgia College Entry
Program, which is located on VSU campus in the University Center
South but is managed by South Georgia College.
VSU Police cleared the immediate area and classes and orientation
sessions for the South Georgia College Entry Program and VSU’s
classes which include Sociology, Anthropology, Criminal Justice,
Interior Design, and OASIS have been cancelled until an all clear
is given, in addition personnel with offices in this area have been
relocated to other facilities on campus.
VSU is asking all students, faculty and staff to remain clear of
the south end of the University Center and report any suspicious
activities directly to VSU Police at 229-333-7816. Updates on the
situation will be posted on the VSU Web site at www.valdosta.edu as information is
confirmed and released.
Note: Classes in other parts of the University and offices will
remain open as usual unless otherwise notified.
