VSU Continuing Education Hosts SCOPE for Kids
VALDOSTA - The Department of Continuing Education at Valdosta
State University will once again host the School-College Outreach
Program of Enrichment (SCOPE) in February and March.
This year’s program will offer two series of classes. Children can
attend from 10 a.m. until noon on Saturdays, Feb. 9-23 or March
1-15. Open to children in kindergarten through eighth grade, SCOPE
offers a variety of exciting, educational classes on dance,
science, cooking and healthy living.
Two very popular returning classes are “Kids in the Kitchen” and
“These Kids are Really Cooking.” Children from kindergarten through
eighth grade will learn basic food safety and how to prepare easy
recipes.
Lego Battle Bots is a special class offered February 9 to March 15
that allows third through seventh graders to design, build and
battle motorized battle vehicles. Kids learn everything that goes
into building a functional vehicle for a specific purpose " to
battle other bots!
A new class, “Masters of Disaster: Be Disaster Safe,” will utilize
games, activities and role-playing to inform kindergarten through
fifth graders about safety and preparedness for the common natural
disasters. Another new option, “Lighten Up,” will help kindergarten
through second graders focus on creating of art projects that
utilize light. Students will make sun catchers and other reflective
art projects that they can display at home.
Parents will love “Healthy Body, Happy Me,” which educates
kindergarten through second graders about healthy eating, exercise,
feelings and self-esteem. Combined with a dance class, children
will have many opportunities to be healthy, get active and have
lots of fun.
