VSU to Host Statewide Student Advisory Conference
VALDOSTA - Valdosta State University will host the University
System of Georgia Student Advisory Council’s fall conference on
Friday, Oct. 19, and Saturday, Oct. 20.
The Student Advisory Council (SAC), which is composed of student
government representatives from the 35 USG colleges and
universities, advises the USG Board of Regents, state government
officials and the news media about issues that are important to
students.
“We are so excited to have leaders from all across the state come
together at VSU to address so many issues that impact the state of
Georgia's college students,” said Jonathan Stroble, VSU Student
Government Association President.
Stroble said campus representatives will come together at the
conference to address statewide issues such as advising, student
enrollment, taxes on textbooks and repercussions of the new HOPE
scholarship eligibility requirements. Stroble said much of the
conference will focus on ways to implement academic advising
recommendations proposed by a board-appointed task force. VSU
President Ronald M. Zaccari chaired the task force charged with
identifying ways to achieve better student advising practices
throughout the system.
The conference, which is not open to the public, will commence in a
dinner with President Zaccari to discuss the advising task force
initiatives. Stroble said the remainder of the conference on
Saturday will dedicated to working in committees to discuss
student-related issues in more detail.
