South Georgia Wildfires and Health Advisories (Smoke)

The Valdosta State University community continues to monitor south Georgia wildfires to the northeast and southeast of the Valdosta area. These fires are at a distance from Valdosta, but periodically create smoky conditions. The VSU Office of Environmental and Occupational Safety, along with the VSU Student Health Services, recently issued a health advisory, which remains in effect. Active children and adults, the elderly and individuals with respiratory and heart disease should reduce prolonged or heavy exertion outdoors in areas of wildfire smoke. Those having problems should contact their health care provider. This health advisory will remain in effect while smoke and high temperatures are prevalent in the area.
