VSU Forensics Team Wins Big

Valdosta State University’s Forensics Team (Speech and Debate) traveled to University of Florida’s campus over the past weekend to compete in a southeast regional forensics tournament against ten other universities and colleges; and, the team came home with top honors.

The three-person Forensics Team participated in 11 individual events, most of which revolved around the field of speech. Lindsey Herring, senior theatre major, received top honors by placing first in the “Prose Interpretation” category. Herring also placed third in “After Dinner Speaking.” Herring’s first place win qualifies her for the National Forensics Association Competition at Berry College in Rome, Ga. in late April.

First-year competitor Emily Griffis, sophomore speech major, also cleared to the finals in “Prose Interpretation.” In addition, William Finney, senior computer science major, achieved second and third place scores in the preliminaries for “Impromptu Speaking.”

“The team’s success was especially note-worthy, because of the competition at the tournament,” Dr. Michael Eaves, team coach, said.
