DeMarse Wins Broadcast Education Association Award
The Broadcast Education Association (BEA) awarded Valdosta State
University’s Ron DeMarse, assistant professor of mass media, with
the Best of Competition recognition in the Narrative Category for
his submission of “Thesis Film” into the BEA Faculty Contest. The
115-minute ‘mockumentary’ follows the lives of 12 students, who
make up the first class of film students at the fictitious South
Georgia Polytechnic College, as they struggle to complete their
degree and produce cinematic gold.
“I produced and directed the film, but the crew was all students,”
DeMarse said. “We were in competition against professional crews,
so this award is really a testament to them [student crew] and
their hard work.”
The BEA will honor DeMarse at its 52nd Annual Convention in Las
Vegas this April.
“Ron’s hard work and dedication has been reflected in the recent
honors received for Narrative Production from the video emphasis in
mass media,” Mike Savoie, associate professor of mass media, said.
“Under his guidance and teaching, we are seeing stronger support
and attentions of the video emphasis and this award will definitely
enhance the area’s credibility.”
