VSU Prepares to Get Lit
The English and Early Childhood and Reading Education
Departments at VSU in conjunction with the Alliance for Literacy
and Literature (ALL) are hosting the Wiregrass Literacy and
Literature Festival on September 14-16, 2006.
The conference will feature several writers, poets, workshops,
exhibitions and more. The conference will kick off Thursday in
Powell Hall at 4 p.m. with science journalist and author of Mad
America and The Mapmakers's Wife, Robert Whitaker as keynote
speaker.
The interdisciplinary Get Lit conference will focus on reading,
writing, and cultural literacy as building blocks of artistic
expression and intellectual investigation. Special attention will
be given to diverse cultural history and the current literacy
challenges of the southern states.
