Paulk to become President of Georgia Library Association
Associate librarian Dr. Betty Paulk of Valdosta State University
has been elected as Vice President/President-elect of the Georgia
Library Association (GLA). She was elected at the GLA meeting in
Athens, Georgia on September 20-22, 2006.
"I am honored to have been elected Vice President/President-elect
of the GLA. It is a privilege to have the opportunity to serve as
President," Paulk said, "I am looking forward to working more
closely with this talented group of individuals."
Paulk has been a member of the VSU staff since 1973. She will
officially assume her duties as president on January 1, 2007.
GLA is an organization of more than 800 members representing
several professions ranging from librarian to paraprofessionals and
students. It is devoted to developing an understanding of how
libraries should fit into today's educational philosophy and the
state's economy. GLA also is dedicated to the expansion and
development of library service.
Prior to coming to VSU, Paulk served as librarian at Baldwin County
High School in Milledgeville, Ga. Paulk has been active in the GLA
since 1974 and has served as secretary of the Reference Services
Interest Group, Secretary of the Academic Library Division,
Vice-Chair and Chair of the Resources and Technical Services
Interest Group. In addition, she holds membership in the
Southeastern Library Association, where she served as the chair of
the Continuing Development Committee, the American Library
Association, and the Association of College and Research
Libraries.
