VSU's Science Seminar kicks off with Myths & Truths aboutBiological Evolution
The first seminar in the Science Seminar Series at Valdosta
State University will take place on Aug. 31, 2006, from 4 to 5
p.m., in the Odum Library Auditorium. Dr. Leslie Jones, from VSU's
Biology Department, will present the "Myths & Truths About
Biological Evolution"
According to Jones, the theory of evolution was turned into a
religious issue due to the implications regarding an explanation of
human origins and has become the political furor that has crippled
biological education. Most people hear more about evolution "on the
street" than they do in science classrooms, said Jones. Her
presentation will examine how deliberate misrepresentation of
evolution leads to the fundamental misconceptions that perpetuate
the Evolution/Creationism Controversy.
Over a dozen presenters will discuss a wide range of science topics
in this series that runs through the end of December. For more
information about the series, contact Dr. Blaine Browne, at
