Jennett inducted as Beta Gamma Sigma Chapter Honoree
Jerry Jennett, president and chief executive officer of Georgia
Gulf Sulfur, was recently inducted into the Harley Langdale Jr.
College of Business Beta Gamma Honor Society. Each year, the honor
society initiates the top junior and senior students in business,
the highest honor that a business student can receive. However,
periodically, the Langdale College Chapter of Beta Gamma Sigma also
chooses an excellent business individual from the community to
award this honor.
Jennett graduated in 1963 from Kansas University with a B.S. in
Business Administration and a major in Finance. In 1973, Jennett
and his wife, Kay, moved to Valdosta where he joined the Griffin
Corporation.
In 1982, Jennett led a Griffin employees group in the purchase of
Georgia Gulf Sulfur Corporation, a sulfur processing facility in
Bainbridge, Ga, from Griffin Corporation. Under his leadership as
president and chief executive officer, Georgia Gulf Sulfur then
purchased additional companies in Ontario, Canada, and Texas and
consolidated all administrative services in Valdosta, Ga.
Jennett is currently a board member of the Valdosta Technical
College and the Valdosta-Lowndes County Industrial Authority. He is
past vice president of finance of the Lowndes Valdosta Arts
Commission and board member of the Lowndes County United Way.
Jennett currently serves as a board member and past president of
the Alapaha Area Council Boy Scouts of America. He has also served
as an adult volunteer at the last four national Boy Scout jamborees
and one international jamboree.
At VSU, Jennett is the chairman of the VSU Foundation Board. He has
served on the search committees for the VSU president, vice
president for Advancement, football coach, and women's basketball
coach and is a past member of the VSU School of Business Advisory
Council. Jennett also provides financial support to VSU's
athletics, theatre, and music programs.
At the Langdale College, Georgia Gulf Sulfur's donations developed
a suite of rooms at Pound Hall, known as the Management Department
Suite. Georgia Gulf Sulfur also supports scholarships awarded each
year to student athletes majoring in business.
