VSU presents first centennial diplomas at May 6 commencementceremonies

Valdosta State University will hold its Spring 2006 Commencement ceremonies in split sessions on Saturday, May 6, 2006, in the P.E. Complex on Baytree Road for the 1,140 students who have applied for graduation.

The morning commencement begins at 10 a.m. and will include undergraduate and graduate students from the James L. and Dorothy H. Dewar College of Education, the Harley Langdale Jr. College of Business Administration, and the Air Force ROTC.

The afternoon commencement begins at 2 p.m. and will include undergraduate and graduate students from the College of the Arts, the College of Arts and Sciences, and the College of Nursing.

VSU is celebrating the centennial anniversary of its founding in 1906, when legislation passed by the Georgia General Assembly created the college. On January 2, 1913, the South Georgia State Normal College opened for classes. In recognition of its rich history, VSU is commemorating these centennial years from 2006 to 2013 with a wide variety of activities to honor VSU's proud past, present and future. Beginning with the May Commencement ceremonies and throughout the centennial celebration years, graduating students will receive specially designed centennial diplomas as a memento of the historical and significant benchmark in the life of the regional university.

Limited seating is available. For more information on graduation or the use of the accessible entrance, refer to the information in the graduation brochure available online at http://www.valdosta.edu/specialevents .
