VSU hosts 10th annual Women's Studies Conference
Valdosta State University's Women's Studies Program, partnered
with the Southeastern Women's Studies Association, will present the
10th Annual Women's Studies Conference from March 30 to April 1,
2006, at VSU's University Center.
Registration will begin at 9 a.m., Thursday, March 30, in the lobby
of the University Center. The times of each day's events vary, but
the entire conference will end on April 1 at 3:15 p.m. with closing
remarks.
Keynote speakers for the conference will include best-selling
authors Jennifer Baumgardener and Amy Richards. There will also be
readings by VSU's Writer-in-Residence Janice Daugharty and
diversity leader Simona Hill. The musical group, Someone's Sister
will also perform at the conference.
A featured event is "Visions and Voices: Traditional Artistry of
Wiregrass Women on March 30, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the University
Center Magnolia Room. This folk life festival will feature
traditional women artists who are included in the new South Georgia
Folk life Collection at the VSU Archives and Special Collections,
as well as music, food, exhibits and crafts demonstrations.
Additional off-campus events include a coffeehouse session at
Giulio's Restaurant at 105 East Ann Street and a jazz cookout at
Snake Nation Press at 110 West Force Street.
The conference, taking place during VSU's centennial year, is open
to students, faculty and staff free of charge. For more
