Tenth Annual African-American Studies Lecture Series at ValdostaState University

Valdosta State University's African-American Studies will present its tenth annual lecture series, "Telling HIStory: African-American Males Ordering the Universe," in February during Black History Month.

Author and speaker Nathan McCall will present first in the series on Thursday, February 2, 2006, at 7 p.m., in the Hugh C. Bailey Science Center Auditorium. McCall, author of "Makes Me Wanna Holler: A Young Black Man in America," will address 21st century challenges facing the African-American male.

McCall, a former reporter for "The Washington Post" and the "Atlanta Journal Constitution," teaches introductory news reporting and writing at Emory University, where he has been a faculty member since 1998.

McCall's lecture is sponsored by College of Arts and Science and is also part of the 2006 President's Lecture Series. A reception and book signing will follow the lecture, which is free and open to the public.

The second presenter in the African-American Studies lecture series will be writer, actor and producer Daron Stewart with, "The Soul of Langston: A One Man Show," on February 16, in 7 p.m., in the Hugh C. Bailey Science Center Auditorium. The Boys' Choir of Tallahassee will present last in the series on February 25, at 5 p.m., in VSU's Whitehead Auditorium.
