VSU's Society for Human Resource Management Student Chapter winsits first Merit Award
Valdosta State University's Society for Human Resource
Management Student Chapter recently received its first Merit Award
from the National Society for Human Resource Management
(SHRM).
?Winning this award demonstrates that your chapter has done an
outstanding job of providing opportunities for growth and
development to your members,? said Chuck Salvetti, Manager of
SHRM's Student Programs, in a letter to Rebecca Murphy, Director of
Training and Development at VSU. ?It is individuals like you and
your fellow chapter leaders that make our organization strong.? One
hundred twenty-four student chapters across the country submitted
applications in the SHRM competition.
?Our student chapter has worked very hard this year,? said Murphy,
who is also SHRM Chapter Advisor. ?They have implemented new
initiatives for their members such as an internship program,
resume? resource book and made additional connections with area HR
professionals.?
Murphy said the VSU organization has also reached out to the VSU
campus community by establishing an Advisory Board made up of
faculty and staff.
? I would like to personally thank Dr. Christy Coons-Yates, Dr. Mel
Schnake, Dr. John Oliver, Dr. Fred Ware, Dr. Napoleon Bamfo, Mr.
Inman Grimsley, Ms. Rosezella Ward, Dr. Xavier McClung, Dr. Larry
Wiley and Dr. Bob Bauer for their support of our student chapter,?
she added.
