S.I.F.E. hosts Fourth Annual Spirit Contest
Students in Free Enterprise (S.I.F.E.) at Valdosta State
University is hosting its fourth Annual Entrepreneurial Spirit
Contest (ESC) at the Valdosta Mall during Free Enterprise Week,
Feb. 7-12. Awards will be presented at 10:30 a.m. Feb. 12.
Students invent products, create slogans, produce models and
construct advertising layouts. Scott Alderman of First Commercial
Real Estate and Richard Olphie of Lowndes County Westside School
will judge students according to their problem statement, purpose
of project and tri-fold visual aids.
The student organization designed ESC to stimulate business
practices in fourth, fifth and sixth graders. Southeast Elementary,
West Gordon and Open Bible are among the competing schools.
S.I.F.E. establishes educational business programs with local
schools and businesses. Advisors Don Parks and Wayne Plumly started
VSU's chapter.
"S.I.F.E. involves teams of college and university students who
work to protect the ideals of free enterprise. VSU has a motivated
group of over 75 members who work with academic systems and
businesses," Parks said.
