S.I.F.E. hosts Fourth Annual Spirit Contest

Students in Free Enterprise (S.I.F.E.) at Valdosta State University is hosting its fourth Annual Entrepreneurial Spirit Contest (ESC) at the Valdosta Mall during Free Enterprise Week, Feb. 7-12. Awards will be presented at 10:30 a.m. Feb. 12.

Students invent products, create slogans, produce models and construct advertising layouts. Scott Alderman of First Commercial Real Estate and Richard Olphie of Lowndes County Westside School will judge students according to their problem statement, purpose of project and tri-fold visual aids.

The student organization designed ESC to stimulate business practices in fourth, fifth and sixth graders. Southeast Elementary, West Gordon and Open Bible are among the competing schools.

S.I.F.E. establishes educational business programs with local schools and businesses. Advisors Don Parks and Wayne Plumly started VSU's chapter.

"S.I.F.E. involves teams of college and university students who work to protect the ideals of free enterprise. VSU has a motivated group of over 75 members who work with academic systems and businesses," Parks said.
