Spring 2024 New Media Center Art Competition

Call for Submissions!

(Entry opens Feb 1st, 2024, and ends at 5:30 pm Feb 29th, 2024)

The New Media Center is excited to invite current VSU faculty, staff, and students to showcase their creativity in the the Spring 2024 Art Competition.  Up to 6 works will be selected to go on display in the NMC classroom 1370.
Open to all currently enrolled students and employed faculty / staff at VSU. 
There are no entry fees for this event.

Entry Criteria:

  • Entries may be any theme suitable for a professional learning environment.

    • Examples prompts: Innovation, Technology, Creativity

  • To enter submit 2024 New Media Center Art Contest Submission form (SUBMISSION DEADLINE ENDED) For each entry. 
    • Two entries allowed per person. 
    • One entry per submission form.
    • Deadline is: Feb 29, 2024, at 5:30 pm
  • Work can be of any medium (ceramic, photography, sculpture etc) but must be submitted as a digital image (JPEG) with the artist's name, such as Doe_Jane.jpeg.  
  • Entries must be original.
    • Entries must not violate US Copyright  Laws.
    • Do not use anything created by, trademarked, or restricted by someone else.
    • Only submit work that you created.
    • Do not use AI.
  • Dimensions should be no larger than 22x34" and no smaller than 18x24". Competition winners will be required to submit a high resolution image (PDF, PNG, JPEG, PPT) for printing final pieces to display. 

 


Awards:

  • Winners will receive a 22x34” printed, laminated & mounted version of their submitted digital work. 
  • The winners' names will be entered in a drawing to win one of the awesome prizes donated by local businesses. In addition, Odum Library will cover the entry cost to submit winning works to the Turner Center for the Arts Spring Into Art Show where they are eligible to win more prizes and the opportunity to sell their work. This includes entry to the Spring Into Art Gala. 
  • After winners have been announced, the remaining participants will be given a chance to win NMC swag in a name-drawing.
  • All prizes must be picked up at the NMC by 4/12/24

Important Dates:

  • Entry Submission Period: February 1 - February 29, 2024 at 5:30 pm
  • Popular Voting: March 1-8, 2024
    • 1 vote per person.
    • Must be currently employed or enrolled at VSU.
  • Winners Announced: March 11, 2024.
    • Up to 5 winners will be selected by judges.
    • 1 will be selected by popular vote.
    • Participants will be notified the following day, March 12th,  to begin the NMC swag name drawing.

More Information:

  • All rights to artwork remain property of the artist. However, NMC reserves the right to display prints of the winning works in the NMC Classroom 1370, on Digital Signage around campus, or on NMC social media with credit given to the artists. Content of work will not be altered beyond resizing and cropping without written permission from the artist.
  • If submitting digital images of 3D work, please consider the background as the whole image will be taken into consideration.
    • Maximum size 22"x34”  (2112 X 3264 pixels)
    • Minimum size 18"x24” (1728 x 2304 pixels)
    • Final print sizes will be between 18"x24" & 22"x34”
    • Please keep this in mind when submitting digital work. If the work submitted is too small, for example 8.5"x11", it may become pixelated when scaled up.
  • Artwork that is not sized appropriately, violating copyright laws, or judged to be unacceptable in a professional learning environment is subject to be disqualified. We reserve the right to reject any submissions received.
  • Odum Library will cover the entry cost for winning works to be entered into the Spring Into Art Show at the Turner Center for the Arts. Artists may decline to enter if they so choose. If the work is digital in its creation, the print may be entered into the exhibit. However, if the work was not made with a camera or computer, such as a traditional painting or illustration, the ORIGINAL work must be entered into the show. There is a rule - no reproductions - which doesn't apply to photos or digital art.
