How did majoring in English prepare you for your career?
Majoring in English helped prepare me for my career by giving me the tools to write clearly and concisely. The courses I took improved my social skills and confidence in interviewing, which has helped me in my sales career immensely. I also learned how to work on several projects at once as well as on tight deadlines, which is a vital in sales working with many clients and deadlines on a daily basis.
How has majoring in English enriched your life?
Being an English major exposed me to many different styles of literature, British and American literature courses gave me a glimpse into different cultures from a variety of time periods. Learning to express myself through writing has enriched my life in all aspects because I am able to make my point clear and communicate effectively.
What advice or insight do you have for VSU alumni and students interested in your career field?
If an opportunity arises that you are unsure of, give it a shot! I got the career I am currently in by doing a sales internship through the Spectator. I did not think that I would excel or like sales, but it ended up working out well for me and you will never know if something is a good fit unless you try.
