GENERAL REGULATIONS

Per USG policy 7.3.4.2 Waiver of Mandatory Fees, VSU waives all mandatory fees for active duty military members utilizing the military’s tuition assistance programs or paying their own way to attend the institution. All Approved Tuition Assistance Request documents should be emailed to the VSU Bursary at studentaccounts@valdosta.edu. Active Duty status must be confirmed with the VSU Office of Adult and Military Programs if not provided on the Approved Tuition Assistance Request document. Additionally, VSU waives mandatory fees for qualifying U.S. Military Reserve and National Guard combat veterans who meet the following requirements:

Per USG policy 7.3.4.3 Waiver of Mandatory fees for U.S. Military Reserve and Georgia National Guard Combat Veterans, Georgia residents who are active members of the U.S. Military Reserves or the Georgia National Guard and were deployed overseas for active service in a location or locations designated by the U.S. Department of Defense as combat zones on or after September 11, 2001, and meet one of the following subsequent requirements:

  1. Served for a cumulative period or periods totaling ninety (90) days in a combat zone; or
  2. Received full disability as a result of injuries received in such combat zone; or
  3. Were evacuated from such combat zone due to severe injuries during any period of time while on active service.

Eligible participants must meet the admissions requirements of the applicable USG institution and be accepted for admission. Students receiving this waiver shall be eligible to use the services and facilities these fees are used to provide. This waiver shall not apply to housing, elective food service, any other elective fees, special fees, or other user fees and charges (e.g., application fees).

It shall be the student's responsibility to register under correct classification for tuition and fee purposes. Failure to notify appropriate University officials when changes in military status or station occur shall result in retroactive assessment of fees where detected.

QUALIFICATION

If active duty military status is not provided on the Approved Tuition Assistance Request document, a student may request a waiver of mandatory fees based on military status as outlined above. The student must submit a request to the Office of Adult & Military Programs at amp@valdosta.edu, and provide the requested documentation confirming military status. Once confirmed, AMP will notify the Third-Party Contracts Accountant in the Bursary that the student is qualified to receive fee waivers. Students must be sure to notify the appropriate school officials in enough time to allow processing of the fee waiver for the requested semester.
