VSU Hosts Spooktacular Halloween Events

VALDOSTA - Valdosta State University is hosting an assortment of frightful events the week of Halloween. From trick-or-treating to dodge ball tournaments, Halloween week at VSU is packed with fun, safe activities for students and the greater VSU community.


Monday, Oct. 29

Haunted Trail
Campus Recreation will host a haunted trail walk from 8-10 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 29, and Tuesday, Oct. 30. Student employees will be lead groups of five to 10 people along the Azalea Trail, which will be lined with “scares” to enhance the Halloween experience. People interested in walking the trail should meet beneath a tent located at the northwest corner of the parking lot behind the VSU Student Recreation Center. Cost is $2 per person. Tuesday, Oct. 30

Trick-or-Treat for Kids

VSU students, faculty and staff are invited to bring their kids to the University Union from 4:30-7 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 30, for a free night of games, trick-or-treating and tips for staying safe this Halloween.

Children 12 years old and under will enter drawings for prizes, trick-or-treat through the union and play games from 5-7 p.m.

During the festivities, the University Police Department will hold a Kid Safe program from 4:30-7 p.m. to fingerprint kids and pass out educational materials about Halloween safety. Wednesday, Oct. 31

Hypnotist and Ghost Hunter

Student Life invites students to experience a hypnotist and to tour the city with a ghost hunter. Hypnotist Tom DeLuca will start the frightful night with a performance at 7 p.m. in the University Center Cypress Room. Once the hypnotic act comes to a close, a ghost hunter will escort students to legendary spots and cemeteries throughout the city. Halo 3 Tournament
Test your video game skills at the Second Annual Dusty Welch Halo 3 Challenge from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 31, in the Student Union Game Room. This individual competition will be exclusively played on the Slayer setting with random weapons selection at all times. Cost is $5 per participant. Thursday, Nov. 1

Dodge ball Throwdown
Gather a team of six and sign up to participate in the Second Annual Throwdown Dodge ball contest to be held at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 1. Teams must sign up by Wednesday, Oct. 31. Bench Press Contest
Test your upper-body strength at the Campus Recreation Bench Press Contest at 4 p.m. Friday, Nov. 2, in the second-floor Student Recreation Center weight room. Ultimate Blazer Challenge
Based on the concept of the reality TV series Survivor, Valdosta State University will host the Ultimate Blazer Challenge, which will be held Friday, Nov. 2, to Sunday, Nov. 4.

For three days, 10 students will be “stranded” on Valdosta State University Property. They will be forced to band together to carve out an existence. The Ultimate Blazer Challengers must form their own cooperative society, set up camp, ration food and participate in contests for food. Those who succeed in challenges will be rewarded with items to make life in the game more bearable. Those who fail must do without added niceties.

Every few hours, the contestants must attend Tribal Council. At this meeting, each person will cast a secret vote to send one fellow contestant home. The person with the most votes must immediately leave their tribe.

One by one, contestants will be voted off, until only two contestants remain at the end of the final night. The five most recently eliminated contestants will form the final Tribal Council to decide who will be the Ultimate Blazer.
