VSU Forensics Team brings home trophies

Valdosta State University's Forensics Team (Speech and Debate) competed with 17 other colleges and universities September 22-24 at Tennessee State University in Nashville, Tennessee and came away successful in several areas. VSU competed against national powerhouses such as the University of Alabama, the University of Florida, and Ole Miss.

VSU's Lindsay Herring and Nikki Slaton were in attendance for the Blazers. Slaton was a finalist in the program oral interpretation event. In addition, she received top novice student honors for the same event. It was Slaton's first tournament. Herring received several top marks in events and placed second overall in the Quadrathon. Only students who competed in four or more events qualified for such an event.

VSU Coach Dr. Michael H. Eaves said the competition was fierce, but that his students represented VSU well. Eaves said the next trip for the team is planned for LSU-Shreveport in early November. Six students will make the trip with Eaves competing in both debate and speech. Those students are William Finney, Lindsay Herring, Brad Moody, Doel Parilla, Hunter Sizemore and Nikki Slaton.
