Former FSU educator brings art to Valdosta
Artist, educator and Florida State University graduate Dick
Bjornseth presents his exhibit, "Frames of Reference," at the
Lowndes/Valdosta Art Commission, 1204 N. Patterson St., Valdosta,
through the end of February. It is free and open to the public. The
exhibition includes 42 original works of various media.
Bjornseth said he owes his ideas to artists such as Duchamp, whose
display of a urinal shocked Paris, and Dali, who forced his
audience to give meaning to his stretched images. "My artwork is
just about having fun, about discovery and about seeing things in a
fresh way," Bjornseth said.
Bjornseth recently earned a Master of Fine Arts degree at Florida
State University. After earning his degree, he taught at FSU for
two years and did post-graduate studies in Art Administration.
Bjornseth was also a 1996 recipient of FSU's "Florence Award,"
which allowed him to teach in Italy for one semester. He is now an
assistant professor of Art at Valdosta State University.
For more information on the exhibit, call the Lowndes/Valdosta Arts
Commission at 229-247-2787.
