VSU RDI Inspires Brooks County Leaders to Renew Commitment to Focused Growth, Community Engagement
Jerome Tucker, executive director of economic development for the Brooks County Development Authority, left the Valdosta State University Center for South Georgia Regional Impact Rural Development Institute feeling excited about the future. He said rural communities like Brooks County face unique challenges in encouraging growth and development, but he and his team believe that focused effort coupled with community engagement will help them achieve positive change.

Terrell County Leaders Ready To Build New Relationships After VSU RDI
Cherysh Green-Caldwell, Dawson city manager: “While we have outlined dynamic projects to be completed — such as enhancing our wonderful Mainstreet Theatre, creating a Georgia Mainstreet Program, and developing a Tourism Marketing Plan — I am most excited about building new relationships, healing old wounds, solidifying current partnerships, and creating a coalition of individuals who are dedicated to the prosperous future of our community. It takes the vision, talents, and love of not only staff and elected officials but also the residents to make any community a success.”

Appling County Leaders Leave VSU RDI Ready to Establish Community Brand
Matt Carter, president and chief executive officer of the Development Authority of Appling County: “Our team identified the need to establish a community brand that reflects our agricultural roots, along with our strengths in distribution, warehousing, and manufacturing. The branding initiative is seen as vital to unifying efforts across the city, county, chamber of commerce, development authority, education, and tourism sectors. Our chamber is organizing a retreat for community leaders aimed at developing comprehensive long-term plans that align with our shared vision for growth and identity.”

VSU Alumni Relations Wins 2025 CASE Circle of Excellence Award
Valdosta State University’s Office of Alumni Relations has been honored with a prestigious Bronze Award in the 2025 Circle of Excellence Awards from the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE). The award recognizes the university’s creative and impactful Blazer Baby Campaign, a community engagement initiative developed in partnership with South Georgia Medical Center (SGMC Health).
