HealthTrails Registration Now Open, Competition Kicks Off Oct. 2

VALDOSTA — Valdosta State University is gearing up for another successful HealthTrails challenge this fall. Faculty and staff eager to enhance their health, their joy, and their future prosperity are encouraged to join the Blazer Nation team.

HealthTrails is a University System of Georgia-sponsored well-being program that draws on the excitement of discovering new places and people by virtually tracing famous trails around the world.

Upon registering for HealthTrails, participants will select one of six virtual trails to motivate them along their journey to better health, more joy, and greater economic prosperity — Mid State Trail, United States of America; Beijing, China; Athens, Greece; French Way; Florence Italy; and Honolulu, Hawaii.

The goal is to travel 300 or more miles along these virtual trails. Each time a participant records a HealthTrails activity — physical activity, gratefulness, or financial knowledge — he or she will move along their selected path, discovering something new about their destination while improving their overall well-being.

Participants who record at least 6,000 steps a day, five days a week; express gratitude once a day, four days a week; and participate in the financial challenge once a week will easily reach their goal. There are also opportunities to earn extra miles through additional physical activities, expressions of gratitude, and daily tip tests.

All benefit eligible employees at VSU are welcome to join HealthTrails, a well-being initiative that rewards consistency over superior athleticism or dramatic changes. The challenge is more about realizing how simple, everyday healthy habits can produce lasting benefits for the mind, body, and soul.

Registration opened on Monday, Sept. 18. The competition will begin on Monday, Oct. 2, and continue through Sunday, Nov. 12.

HealthTrails is a program of University System of Georgia Well-Being, a system-wide well-being initiative. VSU previously participated during the Spring 2017 and Summer 2017 semesters.

All 28 University System of Georgia institutions of higher education participate in HealthTrails. The winning school receives a traveling trophy and bragging rights until the next challenge begins.
