VSU Music Presents Faculty Follies April 22

VALDOSTA — The Department of Music at Valdosta State University will present Faculty Follies at 3 p.m. on Saturday, April 22, in Whitehead Auditorium. Admission is free of charge and open to the public.

When asked what audience members can expect from this special event, Dr. Shannon Lowe, associate professor of bassoon at VSU and principal bassoonist for the Valdosta Symphony Orchestra, said, “The program lineup is a surprise, as we are showcasing the ‘other talents’ of our music faculty members.

“Our students, faculty, staff, and community hear our talented music faculty on their main instrument or voice many, many times throughout the year. Faculty Follies is aimed to be a fun-filled, humorous sharing of talents that our music faculty members possess separate from their specialty and training. It’s a way for participating music faculty members and staff to let down their hair and provide some much-needed stress relief and humor as we head into the whirlwind close of the semester.”

Lowe noted that VSU has offered an event like this in the past, but it was more than a decade ago.

“We are trying to bring it back,” she said.

Whitehead Auditorium is located on the first floor of VSU’s Fine Arts Building, which is located at the intersection of Brookwood Drive and Oak Street.

The Department of Music presents over 200 musical performances for the public each year and is a fully accredited member of the National Association of Schools of Music. It strives to provide the South Georgia community with artistic experiences of lasting value.
