Student Health Center Introduces Live Health Kiosk at Open House

Valdosta State University’s Student Health Center will host an Open House from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 14.
VALDOSTA — Valdosta State University’s Student Health Center will host an Open House from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 14.

The university community is invited to stop by and check out the newest addition to the Student Health Center, the Live Health Kiosk. Refreshments will be served, and everyone who attends will have a chance to win a door prize.

The Live Health Kiosk, provided by Blue Cross Blue Shield of Georgia, will allow students, faculty, and staff to speak with a board-certified physician through a two-way video call. Physicians can address minor health concerns such as allergies, infections, colds, flus, sore throats, fevers, headaches, rashes, and more.

Physicians can prescribe medications to patients through the Live Health Kiosk. Students can pay to have their prescriptions filled at the Student Health Center if the medication is on the university's formulary, and faculty and staff can take their prescriptions to be filled at an outside pharmacy.

Students, faculty, and staff can use the Live Health Kiosk for a fee of $49. If patients have health insurance with Blue Cross Blue Shield of Georgia, the cost may be even lower.

Appointments to meet with a physician in the Live Health Kiosk are not required, and Lynette Lewis, assistant director of the Student Health Center, said that the addition of the kiosk will allow the Student Health Center to increase its services to the university community.

The Student Health Center is open from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Friday.
