VSU to Host Women’s Self-Defense Course Feb. 23-25

VALDOSTA – The Office of Health Promotions at Valdosta State University will offer a Rape Aggression Defense (RAD) training Feb. 23-25. Admission is free of charge, open to faculty, staff, students, alumni, and retirees, and suitable for women of all ages and abilities.

RAD, the largest women’s self-defense network in the United States, is a comprehensive course comprised of lecture, discussion, and physical resistive strategies facilitated by certified RAD instructors.

“The purpose of the RAD program is to provide women with safety education and realistic options for self-defense,” said Chelsea Holcombe, certified RAD instructor and health educator with the Office of Health Promotions. “Women who take the class leave with a greater sense of independence and a realization of their true physical power. RAD replaces fearfulness with confidence.”

Registration for the event is available online at www.valdosta.edu/healthpromo. Space is limited.

RAD training is scheduled from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Feb. 23-25, in Student Union Meeting Room No. 2. Participants are encouraged to attend all three sessions.
